Kelvin Harrison Jr. (born July 23, 1994 in New Orleans ) is an American television and film actor .

Life

Kelvin Harrison Jr. was born in New Orleans in 1994 . His parents are the musicians Shirlita and Kelvin Harrison Senior. He grew up in the Garden District and later moved to the West Bank. Harrison studied studio engineering and marketing before moving to Los Angeles to become an actor. Like his parents, Harrison is also musical, singing and playing mainly jazz and gospel on piano and trumpet.

Harrison got his first small film role in the drama 12 Years a Slave directed by Steve McQueen . A supporting role followed in 2015 in the drama A Sort of Homecoming . In 2016 he starred in The Birth of a Nation by Nate Parker in the role of Simon. From the same year he was seen in a total of 12 episodes of the series StartUp in the role of Touie Dacey. 2017 followed a role in the film drama Mudbound by Dee Rees . In the same year, It Comes at Night was released in which he played the role of Travis. This was followed by three episodes in the series Shots Fired .

In 2018 roles in Monsters and Men , Assassination Nation , Jinn and Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy followed . Starred Harrison received in the presented in January 2019 at the Sundance Film Festival mystery thriller The Wolf Hour of Alistair Banks Griffin . In the same year he was seen in the title role in Julius Onah's drama Luce and in ten episodes of the series Godfather of Harlem . In the drama Gully by Nabil Elderkin , Harrison plays Jessie as a teenager who has to fight with two other boys through a dystopian Los Angeles.

Other films in production with Harrison include Waves by Trey Edward Shults , Bolden by Dan Pritzker and The Photograph by Stella Meghie .

In late June 2020, he became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .

At the Toronto International Film Festival 2019 Harrison was named one of the four Rising Stars alongside Geraldine Viswanathan , Chino Darín and Josefine Frida Pettersen .
