Julius Onah (born February 10, 1983 in Makurdi ) is a Nigerian -American filmmaker .

Life

Julius Onah was born in 1983 in Makurdi , the capital of the Nigerian state of Benue. The son of diplomat Adoga Onah, he traveled the world before the family settled in Arlington, Virginia when he was 10 years old. He lived there with his mother and siblings after his father returned to Africa. Onah graduated from Washington-Lee High School, Arlington, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. This was followed by a master's degree from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. He also received a grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. His twin brother Anthony Onah is also a director and made his feature film debut in 2017 with The Price . He works on different film projects than his brother.

Julius Onah himself made his feature film debut as a director with The Girl Is in Trouble , a film that hit US theaters in April 2015. In 2018 the film The Cloverfield Paradox came out , which he directed. He presented his film Luce with Naomi Watts , Octavia Spencer , Tim Roth and Kelvin Harrison Jr. in the leading roles at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2019 .
