Chef-Boutonne is a village and a former commune with 2,108 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016 Poitou-Charentes ). It belonged to the Arrondissement of Niort and the canton of Melle (until 2015 Chef-Boutonne ).

With effect from January 1, 2019, the previous municipalities of Chef-Boutonne , La Bataille , Crézières and Tillou were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Chef-Boutonne of the same name and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Chef-Boutonne .

geography

Chef-Boutonne is about 61 kilometers southwest of Poitiers and about 38 kilometers southeast of Niort . The Boutonne River has its source here . The former Routes nationales 737 and 740 (today's D737 and 740) lead through the Commune déléguée .
