The Canton Melle is a French constituency in Arrondissement of Niort in Deux-Sevres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; its main town is Melle . Colette Balland and Dorick Barillot (both PS ) have been representatives in the General Council of the Département since 2015 .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Melle included the twelve municipalities of Chail , Maisonnay , Mazières-sur-Béronne , Melle , Paizay-le-Tort , Pouffonds , Saint-Génard , Saint-Léger-de-la-Martinière , Saint-Martin-lès-Melle , Saint-Romans-lès-Melle , Saint-Vincent-la-Châtre and Sompt . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​143.51 km ² . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 7916.
