On January 1, 1973, the municipalities of Saint-Léger-lès-Melle and L'Enclave-de-la-Martinière were merged to form today's municipality.
The municipality of Saint-Léger-de-la-Martinière was merged with Melle , Paizay-le-Tort , Mazières-sur-Béronne and Saint-Martin-lès-Melle to form the Commune nouvelle Melle on January 1, 2019 . Since then it has had the status of a Commune déléguée. The municipality of Saint-Léger-de-la-Martinière belonged to the canton of Melle in the Arrondissement of Niort .
