Chey is located southwest of Poitiers in the historic Poitou countryside . Neighboring municipalities are Chenay in the north, Lezay in the east, Saint-Léger-de-la-Martinière in the south and Sepvret in the west.

Chey also owned a train station on the Parthenay – Melle line of the Compagnie des Tramways des Deux-Sèvres (TDS) .
