Vouillé is a French municipality with 3292 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Niort and the canton of La Plaine Niortaise and is a member of the Communauté d'agglomération du Niortais . The inhabitants are called Vouilletais .

geography

Vouillé is located in the metropolitan area east of Niort on the Lambon River . Vouillé is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chauray in the north and northwest, La Crèche in the northeast, Fressines in the east, Mougon-Thorigné in the southeast, Prahecq in the south, Aiffres in the southwest and Niort in the west.

The A10 autoroute runs through the municipality .

history

Vouillé is probably identical to the Gallo-Roman campus Vogladiensis . In 507 there (or near Voulon ) the battle of Vouillé , in which the Franks under the Merovingian Clovis I defeated the Visigoths under Alaric II .
