Saint-Pompain is a French municipality with 943 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Niort and in the canton of Autize-Égray (until 2015: canton of Coulonges-sur-l'Autize ). The inhabitants are called Feniousiens .

Saint-Pompain is located about 73 kilometers west-southwest of Poitiers and about 16 kilometers northwest of Niort on the Autise (also: Autize ), which forms the northern municipal boundary. Saint-Pompain is surrounded by the neighboring communities Coulonges-sur-l'Autize in the north, Ardin in the northeast, Villiers-en-Plaine in the east, Benet in the south, Rives-d'Autise with Nieul-sur-l'Autise in the west and Southwest and Saint-Hilaire-des-Loges in the northwest.
The A83 autoroute runs along the southern edge of the municipality .
