Chizé is a French municipality with 863 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Niort and the canton of Mignon-et-Boutonne (until 2015: canton of Brioux-sur-Boutonne ). The inhabitants are called Chizéens .

geography

Chizé is located about 24 kilometers south-southeast of Niort on the Boutonne . Chizé is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Les Fosses in the north, Secondigné-sur-Belle in the northeast, Brieuil-sur-Chizé in the east, Villiers-sur-Chizé in the southeast, La Villedieu in the south, Dampierre-sur-Boutonne in the southwest, La Vert in the west and Villiers-en-Bois in the north-west.

history

In 1373 there was a battle or siege of Chizé. Here the Breton Bertrand du Guesclin succeeded in driving the English masters from the Chizé castle. In 1973 the previously independent municipality of Availles-sur-Chizé was attached to the municipality.
