Bessines is a French commune with 1,675 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Niort and the Canton of Frontenay-Rohan-Rohan . The inhabitants are called Bessinois .
geography
Bessines is located in the Saintonge countryside on the edge of the Marais Poitevin . The Guirande River runs south of the municipality . Bessines is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Niort in the north and east, Saint-Symphorien in the southeast, Frontenay-Rohan-Rohan in the south and Magnè in the west. The former route nationale 11 (today's D611) runs through the municipality .
