Chef Boutonne

Chef-Boutonne is a French commune with 2,563 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Niort and the Canton of Melle (until 2015: Canton Chef-Boutonne ).

It was created as the Commune nouvelle of the same name with effect from January 1, 2019 by merging the previous municipalities of Chef-Boutonne , La Bataille , Crézières and Tillou , which have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Chef-Boutonne .

Chef-Boutonne is about 61 kilometers southwest of Poitiers and about 38 kilometers southeast of Niort . The Boutonne River has its source here . Chef-Boutonne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Alloinay with Gournay-Loizé in the north and northeast, Valdelaume with Ardilleux in the east and southeast, Loubigné in the south, La Bataille in the southwest, Fontenille-Saint-Martin-d'Entraigues in the west and Tillou in the northwest .

The former Routes nationales 737 and 740 (today's D737 and 740) run through the municipality .
