Caunay is a French municipality with 181 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016 Poitou-Charentes ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Niort and is part of the canton of Melle ( Sauzé-Vaussais until 2015 ).

Caunay is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Pers in the north and north-west, Vanzay in the north, Chaunay in the east, Pliboux in the south and south-east, Mairé-Levescault in the south and Clussais-la-Pommeraie in the west.
