Saint-Pierre Church of Aiffres

Aiffres is a French municipality with 5506 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement Niort , the canton La Plaine Niortaise and is a member of the Communauté d'agglomération du Niortais .

geography

The community is located in the metropolitan area southeast of Niort . Neighboring municipalities are Vouillé in the northeast, Prahecq in the east, Saint-Martin-de-Bernegoue in the southeast, Fors in the south, Saint-Symphorien in the southwest and Niort in the west and north.

The Guirande river , a tributary of the Sèvre Niortaise, drains the municipality to the west.

Transport links

The leading out of the town of Niort department road D740 crosses the municipality. The A10 motorway runs in the eastern part . Niort-Marais Poitevin Airport (formerly: Niort-Souché) is located just north of the municipal boundary. The local station is served by the French state railway company with the Chartres – Bordeaux line, built between 1874 and 1911.

In 1936 it merged with the previous municipality of Saint-Maurice-du-Marié.
