La Crèche is a French commune in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It is located in the arrondissement of Niort and in the canton of Saint-Maixent-l'École .

geography

The western French community with 5635 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is located 13 kilometers east-northeast of Niort on the Sèvre Niortaise river .

The motorway triangle of the Autoroute A83 ( E 03 ) with the Autoroute A10 ( E 601 ) is located in the municipality .

history

The area is palaeontologically known for its dinosaur finds. Hand axes and other finds from the Paleolithic have been found here. During the Gallo-Roman period there was a small vicus here . The area around La Crèche only gained importance in the Merovingian period (from the 7th century), which has been proven archaeologically by the discovery of a necropolis .

The Château de Bougouin was built in the 13th century by the Vivonne family.
