The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Niort and in the canton of Autize-Égray (until 2015: canton of Coulonges-sur-l'Autize ).

Puihardy is about 30 kilometers west-southwest of Parthenay . The Saumort River runs along the eastern border of the municipality. Puihardy is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Chapelle-Thireuil in the north, Fenioux in the east and northeast and Ardin in the south and west.
