Saint-Maxire is a French commune with 1,302 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Poitou-Charentes ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Niort and the Canton of Autize-Égray (until 2015: Canton of Niort-Nord ).

Saint-Maxire is about eight kilometers north of Niort city ​​center . The Sèvre Niortaise forms the southeastern municipal boundary. Saint-Maxire is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Faye-sur-Aydin in the north and north-west, Sainte-Ouenne in the north and north-east, Échiré in the east, Sciecq in the south, Saint-Rémy in the south-west and Villiers-en-Plaine in the west.
