François is a French municipality with 954 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Poitou-Charentes ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Niort and the canton of Saint-Maixent-l'École (until 2015: Canton of Saint-Maixent-l'École-1 ). The inhabitants are called Franciens .

François is located about nine kilometers northeast of Niort on the Sèvre Niortaise . François is surrounded by the neighboring communities Cherveux in the north, La Crèche in the east and north-east, Chauray in the south and south-west and Saint-Gelais in the west and north-west.
The A83 autoroute runs through the municipality .
