It belongs to the Arrondissement of Niort and the canton of Mignon-et-Boutonne ( Brioux-sur-Boutonne until 2015 ).

Asnières-en-Poitou is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Juillé in the north and north-west, Brioux-sur-Boutonne in the north, Chérigné in the north-east, Paizay-le-Chapt in the east and south-east, Vinax in the south, Saint-Mandé-sur-Brédoire in the Southwest and Ensigné in the west and southwest.
