Rock carving in Lemmington Wood

The rock carvings in Lemmington Wood are near Edlingham Castle , southwest of Alnwick in Northumberland in England .

The rock outcrop in Lemmington Wood bears two cup-and-ring markings (one of them with a groove, English penannular ) and Northumberland's only runic inscription .

The motifs lie on the flat part of the exposed surface and consist of a bowl with a single ring, which is connected by a groove to another bowl, surrounded by a complete ring and an eroded ring. The symmetry of the motifs is affected by two straight, parallel scratches on the surface that are likely not part of the original design.

The runes are about 30 cm south of the bowl and ring motifs on a sloping surface of the outcrop. They likely mean "left behind" or "relics".

Nearby are the Yetlington Lane rock carvings .
