Nieul-sur-l'Autise is a former French commune in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belonged to the arrondissement of Fontenay-le-Comte and the canton of Fontenay-le-Comte (until 2015: canton of Saint-Hilaire-des-Loges ). It has 1,296 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), who are called Nieulais .
geography
Nieul-sur-l'Autise is crossed by the Autise river, which partly forms the municipal boundary to the north.
Nieul-sur-l'Autise is surrounded by the villages of Saint-Hilaire-des-Loges in the north, Saint-Pompain in the east, Benet in the south and southeast, Oulmes in the south, Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux in the southwest and Xanton- Chassenon to the west and northwest.
history
On January 1, 2019, Nieul-sur-l'Autise was merged with the neighboring municipality of Oulmes to form the municipality of Rives-d'Autise .
