Chail is a commune Déléguée in the French community Fontivillié with 503 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in French Deux-Sevres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The inhabitants are called Chaillois .
On January 1, 2019, the municipality of Chail merged with Sompt to form the Commune nouvelle Fontivillié. Since then it has had the status of a Commune déléguée. The municipality of Chail belonged to the canton of Melle in the Arrondissement of Niort .
geography
Chail is about 30 kilometers east-southeast of Niort . The municipality of Chail was surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Saint-Léger-de-la-Martinière in the north and northwest, Saint-Vincent-la-Châtre in the east, Maisonnay in the southeast, Sompt in the south, Saint-Génard in the southwest and Pouffonds in the west.
