Sonal Shah

Sonal Shah (* 1980 ) is an American actress who is best known for her role as Dr. Sonja "Sunny" Dey in the television series Scrubs - The Beginners is known.

Youth and education

Shah grew up in Wheaton , Illinois. Her parents, Bhadresh and Mrudula Shah, moved to the United States from Mumbai , India, in 1970 .

Shah graduated from Wheaton Warrenville South High School. There she was named DuPage Country Fair Queen in July 1998 .

Shah graduated cum laude from Loyola University in Chicago, majoring in theater and minor in psychology , biology and chemistry with a focus on medicine. While studying at Latoya College, Shah joined the Alpha Sigma Alpha fraternity . “I used to plan to go to medical school,” Shah told a Wheaton newspaper in March 2009. “I love studying science, but I've found my passion for acting outweighed my desire to be a doctor would have."

After graduating, Shah joined the Chicago Theater Community and has performed in the Tony Award- winning Goodman Theater , among others . She is a founding member of the Rasaka Theater Company , which specializes in South Asian plays and dramaturges, and completed her acting skills at the Moscow Art Theater School at Harvard University .

Career

Shah moved to Los Angeles in 2006 and began her career appearing in commercials and sketch shows. She also performed with Second City theaters in Chicago and Los Angeles.

In 2009, Shah began appearing in Scrubs as Dr. Sonja "Sunny" Dey, who joins the eighth season as a beginner. She also appeared on the Internet series Scrubs: Interns , an offshoot of the series. In the fifth episode of the ninth season, Shah appears as a guest star.

Shah also starred in the teen comedy Ratko: The Dictator's Son , produced by National Lampoon .
