The Morgan Project (original title: Morgan ) is a mystery - horror - science fiction film by Luke Scott , which was released in US cinemas on September 2, 2016 and in German cinemas on December 1, 2016.

action

Lee Weathers, a corporate risk management consultant, is sent to a remote and top secret research station to investigate and assess an incident allegedly caused by an innocent-looking youth. But Morgan, the young woman's name, is only shy at first glance; inside she is a machine and has become completely unpredictable. She is an artificially created human being and has been equipped with synthetic DNA. Morgan developed very quickly and within a very short time had all the expectations of the leading scientist Dr. Simon Ziegler and his team, to which Dr. Lui Cheng, the psychologist Dr. Alan Shapiro and nutritionist Skip Vronsky are outdone. But Morgan has also overtaken its creators in all respects, which makes them dangerous. Weathers' assessment should decide who is responsible for Morgan's actions and whether the girl is turned off or not. This decision is difficult for the risk manager, and when Morgan also starts running amok, she sets out to incapacitate her.

At the end of the film it is revealed that Morgan was a further developed project (No. 9), with which an emotional development should also be artificially initiated - which is considered to have failed after the course and should not be further financed. Instead, project no. 4 is to be further funded, as it works as expected - as Lee Weathers has demonstrated. From this it becomes clear that it was also created synthetically. Both Morgan and Lee were part of a super soldier project.

It is the first trailer in film history to be created using an algorithm. 21st Century Fox and the scientific department of IBM wanted to convey the film subject in an impressive way. The IBM manager John R. Smith stated in a blog entry that Watson had analyzed a total of 100 trailers of horror films in order to produce the approximately 60-second trailer. Watson divided these into segments, and after a visual analysis, an audio analysis and an analysis of the scene composition, the artificial intelligence analyzed the film The Morgan Project and filtered out the appropriate parts. Ultimately, the system decided on ten sequences, from which a film team then put together the trailer.

The film was released in US cinemas on September 2, 2016 and in German cinemas on December 1, 2016.

reception

Age rating

In Germany the film is FSK 16 . The statement of reasons for the release states: “The film contains some scenes of violence and killing. However, these are conclusively embedded in the dramaturgy of the story, do not have an end in themselves and are not played out speculatively. An impairment [is] not to be feared in adolescents from 16 years of age. Viewers of this age are also able to relate the change from the nice child to a brutal monster to the basic moral message of the film ('not everything scientifically feasible is ethically justifiable'). Therefore a socio-ethical disorientation can be excluded. "

Reviews

The film has so far won over 39 percent of Rotten Tomatoes ' critics .

Markus Tschiedert from BZ says: “Not bad for a debut work. Luke Scott managed an intense science fiction shocker with a great mixture of science criticism and energetic action scenes. "

Gross profit
