Cat in a Sack is a German feature film directed by Florian Schwarz . It was shot in 2004 and released in theaters in April 2005. The title alludes to the saying “ buy a pig in a poke ”.

action

Karl and Doris meet on the train and fall in love, but she has a distant, voyeuristic relationship with the much older security expert Ralf Brockmann. Karl, who is traveling without a destination, decides to stay in Leipzig , where Doris works in a karaoke bar . The film follows Karl, Doris and Brockmann on their (separate) paths through the Leipzig Night. It is more about the game through desire and mystery, which the three play and experience with each other in different ways. There are many secondary threads before the story fits into a whole.

Reviews

“The gloomy film noir describes the forlornness of its protagonists with constant changes of perspective, without wanting to offer socio-political analyzes. Outstanding actors, convincing camera work, sensual elegance and the courage to be pathos and exaggerated make the film an experience. "

“Despite acceptable performance, the multiple award-winning directorial debutant Florian Schwartz offers boring Eastern sadness without giving the characters a depth, let alone a certain credibility or even explaining the title halfway. 'Poop in the sack' might be more appropriate here! "

Awards

The pig in a poke was awarded the First Steps Award for the best young film in 2004. At the Max Ophüls Festival 2005, the film was awarded for the best screenplay and the best film music. A pig in a poke was also shown at the Berlinale .

Soundtrack
