The basis was a German hip-hop band that existed from 1997 to 2001. Her most successful and best-known pieces include: If I only had one more day to live , I love myself and I don't want your life .

Band history

Basis was founded at the end of 1996. The first line-up met in the Eco Park in Poppenbüttel to record their first demos . At that time still nameless , a solid line-up crystallized with Vera “Missyna” Holthaus , Kami Manns , Edson Sifre Garcia and Ronny Gerulat. In 1997 they met the producer Marcus Wolter , whose production company "Seegang" they signed. Their press officer and owner Kati Ahuis gave the band the name "Basis", which was based on various fun conversations the group had. Seegang then paid for the studio sessions and had several songs recorded, mostly by front woman Holthaus. In addition, they had dance training with Aydin Eser in order to be able to survive visually on stage and in the videos.

This was followed by a first appearance in the Kaifu fitness studio in Hamburg. Then Markus Wolter was the song It's just one more time by Miss D Pheat inspire and asked Holthaus a song with a similar topic to write for a base. The song eventually became If I Had Only One Day to Live , the group's debut single . In the summer of 1997, the group was finally taken under contract with Polydor , which they wanted to build up as a successor to the Tic Tac Toe , which were currently in the separation dispute . A video was produced for their debut single in August 1997, which was airplayed on the music channels VIVA and MTV . The single, released two weeks later, reached number 17 in the German charts. The following singles I love myself and I don't want your life and the album Here Comes the Basis were also successful. They were then looked after by manager Alex Grob . In 1998 the group was awarded the Volkswagen Sound Foundation's young talent award at the VIVA Comet award ceremony .

In 1998 Manns left the group to begin a solo career. The three of them released their second album Phase II in 1999 and were able to build on their old successes again with the single I don't want your life .

In 1999, band member Garcia disappeared without a trace, but reappeared a few weeks later. His manager said he was staying with a free Christian community in Cologne.

In 1999, however, Holthaus split from the band and signed a solo artist contract with Zeitgeist / Polydor. This sealed the end of the group. At the beginning of 2001 the compilation I love me was released .

The time according to basis

Mann's solo career spanned two singles, one with Purple Schulz . She then studied acting and choreography at the Ernst-Busch-Hochschule für Schauspiel in Berlin and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Techniques du Théâtre in France from 2002 to 2007 and now works as a director and actress. Holthaus released two singles under the stage name Missyna in 2001/02. With the single Das Leben she was able to reach number 46 in the German charts, but was dismissed from her record company. Then she ended her musical career.
