Rolf Stahlhofen (born April 24, 1968 in Nabburg ) is a German singer, musician and songwriter who became known, among other things, as a member of the Sons of Mannheim .

Life

Growing up in Saudi Arabia , Nigeria , Algeria and England , he came back to Germany as a teenager and lived in Landau in the Palatinate in a home for young people with behavioral problems.

At the age of 18 he began to work as a tour guide, crew boss or roadie for international music groups. These included Axxis , Ice-T , Chaka Khan , Gary Moore , Public Enemy , Rolling Stones , Madonna , Prince , Michael Jackson , Guns N 'Roses and others.

His first bands were "The Dancing With Rolf" and "The Wright Thing" by Jason Wright . He became known on the side of Xavier Naidoo as the front man of the Sons of Mannheim , which he left in 2003 of his own accord.

Stahlhofen already appeared solo during the Söhne album Zion and in July 2003 released his debut album Zeit was zu haben , which entered the charts in Germany and Switzerland . His single Gros girls do not cry also entered the singles charts in Germany and Switzerland. In Switzerland he reached the top ten.

As a “special guest” Stahlhofen appeared at concerts by Joe Cocker , Simple Minds , Katie Melua , Simply Red , Eros Ramazzotti , Die Fantastischen Vier , Udo Lindenberg , Axxis , among others .

Stahlhofen volunteers for the projects School without Racism and Noise Against Nazis . He founded the aid association “Menschen am Fluss”, builds solar water systems in Eritrea or supports hospitals in Sri Lanka in addition to water projects . Together with musicians like Sebastian Krumbiegel from Die Prinzen , D-Flame u. a. he played several times at the festival "Leipzig shows Courage". In Mannheim he organized the "People on the River" festival, which was Germany's largest benefit concert on the occasion of the Oder flood .

With Peter Maffay's musical Tabaluga he appeared in almost 100 shows in the role of the cuckoo , most recently in 2012.

Rolf Stahlhofen's voice can be heard on numerous projects by fellow musicians, such as on Signs of the Times with Xavier Naidoo, Yvonne Catterfeld, Music Team Germany feat. Fury in the Slaughterhouse, Wolfgang Niedecken, Laith Al Deen, Jazzkantine , Marlon and friends with Nena, Joachim Witt, Udo Lindenberg, Peter Maffay.

At the end of 2007 Rolf Stahlhofen became the first European “Messenger of Truth” (MoT) of the UN-Habitat . As part of this activity, he traveled to the World Urban Forum in Nanjing , China, in November 2008 , and gave lectures on urbanization, culture and youth. In 2011 he founded the Water is Right foundation, which advocates the human right of water.

His CD Besser Jetzt als Nie was released on October 1st, 2009 in Germany. The songs were created in collaboration with the Swedish funk musician and successful producer Paulo Mendonça and the guitarist Joerg Dudys . Stahlhofen put Die CD on the market on its own and took more than five years to create it. The cover reads: "All this without time pressure, if the schedule and budget allowed."

He recorded the CD Big Soul with the SWR Big Band, Dirk Zöllner and Regy Clasen . He often works live with his band with his friend Max Mutzke .

In 2010 Rolf Stahlhofen was in Kenya and recorded a water song for the UN Habitat campaign Water is Life with African artists, which premiered on March 22, 2011 in Cape Town on the occasion of World Water Day .

In 2014 he got back to work with the sons of Mannheim together with Xavier Naidoo. In 2015 the band celebrated their 20th anniversary.
