Theresa von Eltz (born November 15, 1978 in Bonn ) is a German film director .

Life

Theresa von Eltz grew up as the third of five siblings in Bergisch Gladbach. She finished her studies in politics and history, which she began in Berlin, with a Masters degree in history from the University of Oxford . Then von Eltz studied directing at the National Film and Television School (NFTS) in Beaconsfield, UK. Stephen Frears and Ken Loach were two of their teachers. With Gecko she shot her first short film at the NFTS, which was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlinale Shorts in 2007.

After completing her apprenticeship, von Eltz returned to Germany and worked for the theater magazine Foyer . She also shot advertising films for various companies, some of which were awarded at the advertising film festival Die Klappe . Von Eltz worked as a video operator for the award-winning film The Lives of Others . Together with screenwriter Esther Bernstorff , she developed the concept for her first feature film 4 Kings , which won numerous prizes and nominations and was shown at the Hamburg Film Festival in autumn 2015 .

Theresa von Eltz lives in Berlin.
