David Nawrath

David Nawrath (* 1980 in Berlin ) is a German director , screenwriter and editor .

Live and act

Nawrath was born to an Iranian mother and a German father. He grew up mostly in Berlin, from the age of 11 to 13 he lived in Tehran . He directed his first work together with Florian Schewe on the documentary Moharram - Youth of Eternal Dawn , which accompanies young people in Tehran. In the same year he enrolled in directing at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin . As part of his training, he made the multi-nominated short film What remains , based on a script he wrote .

In 2011 Nawrath was selected as one of six international filmmakers for the Résidence du Festival de Cannes in Paris . After his return to Germany he shot various documentary series and reports on behalf of RBB and arte , among others with the cook Sarah Wiener .

The movie Atlas premiered in 2018, and Nawrath and his former fellow student Paul Salisbury were responsible for the script and directing it. Atlas was nominated for the German Film Award.
