Film awards
overview
Since 1986 the Turin Film Festival has had an international competition with film prizes awarded by juries . Since then, the main prize has gone to the best feature film in the international competition. Additional film awards were added almost every year. There was only an international competition for medium- length films in 1986 and 1988. The international short film competition existed between 1987 and 2003. In 1987, a national Italian competition was held for the first time and initially under the title Concorso Spazio Aperto . Later it became two sections, for films from Italy and for films from Turin. A special feature compared to other festivals of the time was that video was allowed as a format for this competition from the start . An audience award has been given since 1988 . As at several film festivals around the world, a CICAE Award from the International Association of Art Cinemas (CICAE) has been presented at the Torino Film Festival since 1990 . Another indication of the growing importance of the festival was the introduction of a Fipresci Prize in 1992, which the Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique only awards at selected festivals. In 1993, the Concorso un anno di corti Italiani was added a separate competition for Italian short films. The international screenplay award Premio Holden was first awarded in 1995, the Premio CinemAvvenire for the best debut feature film by a director was first awarded in 1996. 1997 brought the first Cipputi Award for the festival's best film dealing with the world of work . Since 1998, the Premio Nestlé has supported the distribution of a foreign film in Italy. The Torino Film Festival has had an international competition for documentary films since 2000. In 2001, Turin was one of the first eight festivals in Europe to receive the Jameson Short Film Award . The prize was co-initiated by the European Coordination of Film Festivals (ECFF) and is awarded to the best Italian short film. In the same year, the Kodak Prize was awarded for the first time , which also goes to an Italian film, which can then be seen at the Kodak European Showcase in Cannes . In addition to the awards already mentioned, the Torino Film Festival also awards a number of other film prizes in secondary categories, for example for film acting .
