Gianni Amelio

Gianni Amelio (born January 20, 1945 in San Pietro di Magisano , Province of Catanzaro ) is an Italian film director .

Life

After studying philosophy, Amelio came to the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (CSC) in the second half of the 1960s and initially worked as an assistant director , often for Gianni Puccini . In 1967 he made his first feature film and in the following years earned a good reputation both in the cinema and with his television work. In the early 1990s, three of his films were recognized as best film at the European Film Awards. He holds the record to this day. He was also successful at the respective film festivals in Cannes and Venice . In 2008 Amelio took over the management of the Torino Film Festival from his compatriot Nanni Moretti .
