Isabell Šuba (born September 6, 1981 in Berlin ) is a German film director of films such as Hanni & Nanni - More than best friends or men, films & women show their breasts .

life and work

Šuba studied directing at the Babelsberg Film School . In 2011 she completed her degree in directing. Her graduation film, the 30-minute female soldier action drama Now But Ballet , was shown at both national and international festivals. Also in 2011 she was accepted as a scholarship holder in the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung 's program to promote talented students and wrote her theoretical master class thesis Women's roles in the male-dominated film business. Until 2014 she was a master class student at the Babelsberg Film University under the direction of Andreas Kleinert and Helke Misselwitz .

Parallel to her diploma studies, Šuba assisted the acting coach Frank Betzelt and also took part in various acting seminars on methods of acting. For this she visited u. a. the Master Class of Larry Moss, Susan Batson , Keith Johnstone and Prodromos Antoniadis .

Based on the impulses of this work, she founded the directing and acting training Whatever Works in 2014 , where actors and directors can meet and improve their methods together.

Isabell Šuba was represented in the short film competition at the 65th Cannes International Film Festival in 2012 with her documentary Chica XX Mujer and was awarded the Next Generation Short Tiger . For her satirical feature film debut Men Show Films & Women Their Breasts , she received among other things the award of the youth jury of the Max Ophüls Film Festival 2014 as well as the award for the best socially relevant film.

The mentoring program INTO THE WILD , founded by Šuba and for which all German film schools have come together for the first time , started at the beginning of 2017 . As part of the program, selected filmmakers from all trades are to be supported in developing and realizing their material.

For her feature film Hanni & Nanni - More than Best Friends , she worked with UFA Fiction and Feine Films and shot with actors such as Sascha Vollmer , Henry Hübchen , Jessica Schwarz and Katharina Thalbach .

Isabell Šuba lives and works in Berlin.
