occupation

Muxmäuschenstill is a pseudo-documentary film by Marcus Mittermeier , which deals with the contradiction between one's own moral claim and its enforcement through vigilante justice. The screenplay for the 2004 film was written by Jan Henrik Stahlberg , who also plays the leading role.

action

Mr. Mux, in his early 30s and a former philosophy student , wants to teach his fellow human beings back to ideals and a sense of responsibility in a very unconventional way .

In Berlin the urban jungle Mr. Mux makes targeted hunt for speeders, dodgers , rapists, Pool Pinkler, illegal parking , shoplifters, graffiti -Sprüher and other criminals of all kinds. As his right hand he recruited the slightly underexposed former long-term unemployed Gerd, of him always to "patrol" accompanies and records the "missions" with a video camera. In addition to the violence typical of vigilante justice, which amounts, for example, to display, coercion and once inadvertently even death (when escaping onto a railroad track), Mux always charges its “customers” a “fee” for this “service” and takes “educational measures”, which turn out to be more and more brutal as the film progresses.

During a visit to a bar, Mr. Mux falls in love with the young Kira, whom he later always calls "little mouse". A real love soon seems to develop between the two. But the relationship ultimately fails because of Mux's endless moral sermons to his girlfriend and his strange worldview.

Over time, Mr. Mux can build a nationwide operating, media-effective company. After a family drama, he is even present in all media and can hire numerous employees. But with the fanatical pursuit of his ideals, Mux ultimately turns himself into a murderer: He shoots Kira after he has caught her having oral sex with another man at a fair . The subsequent suicide attempt fails. With Gerd's help, he buries Kira's corpse in the forest, hands over the management of the Berlin location to Björn, an employee, and fled headlong to Italy with Gerd . There Mux had a fatal accident when he tried to stand in the way of a speeding sinner on the country road. The film ends with a monologue by Mux that he had previously recorded on tape. It concerns Gerd, who is supposed to spread Mux's ideas in his hometown Darmstadt . Before the credits you can still see a black background on which "Still" can be read in white letters - as the last part of the title after "Mux" and "Mäuschen".

criticism

“An intelligent jet-black comedy that snubs moral feelings and provokes controversial discussions. Alternating between fictional and quasi-documentary images and carried by convincing actors, the film ultimately aims to criticize contemporary media culture. "

- film service 14/2004

“Thanks to clever marketing and word-of-mouth propaganda, the film suddenly managed to maintain its position in the top ten cinema statistics for a few weeks at a cost of tens of times its low production costs. At a point in time when German cinema with high audiences was threatening to have shrunk to (T) raumschiff Surprise - Period 1 (2004), a subversive little pearl was confronted with Muxmäuschenstill at the box office, which was intelligent about the current state of society knew so much to say.
