action

FRG, 1967: Martin and Ruby fall in love. They want to break out of their respective lives and follow their ideals. Martin wants to be a writer, Ruby a singer. They meet in secret, as Ruby's father is strictly Catholic. For him, Martin embodies everything bad. The two decide to run off to Berlin. The plan fails, however, and Ruby has to go to the monastery, while Martin is put in the Diakonie sanctuary .

Nine years later, they both meet again. Martin had to go to prison for some time and has developed into a latently violent man. Ruby is a more or less successful (hit) singer, but has to resort to alcohol and pills again and again and suffers from an eating disorder as a result of the educational measures in the monastery. Martin and Ruby are still in love. Just before a gig, Ruby is finally caught up with by the past.

criticism

The film service judges that the film is a "rousing drama that tracks down petty-bourgeois biographies during the 1968 revolt with a lot of enthusiasm and esprit and makes the authoritarian 'must' of the restorative Federal Republic of Germany physically tangible".
