occupation

Zoros Solo is a German tragic comedy by Martin Busker from 2019 . The film was released in German cinemas on October 24, 2019.

action

The film is about the Afghan refugee boy Zoro, who found accommodation with his mother and sister in the auditorium of a school. Ms. Lehmann wants to rehearse with her boys' choir in the same auditorium .

Lehman and Zoro clash several times, until Zoro sees a possibility of secretly getting his father from Hungary to Swabia . The choir is supposed to take part in a competition and therefore travel to Hungary. Zoro asks Ms. Lehmann to include him in the choir and also to take him on tour. Because he has a beautiful voice , it works too; he should even sing the solo. This solo takes place without him because he has to hide his father in the back of the tour bus.

On the way back, he confesses to Ms. Lehmann that his letter of approval from the youth welfare office is forged and that his father is down in the hold. Ms. Lehmann manages to distract the police officers who are about to investigate the bus.

Back in their Swabian homeland, Zoro and his fellow singer Julian make up again. Both want to sing in the choir again; but when they want to ask Frau Lehmann, her office is empty because she has given up the choir management.

After some turbulence, Zoro succeeds in convincing Ms. Lehmann to continue leading the choir and also to take in the other refugee boys.

background

Director Martin Busker makes his cinema debut with Zoros Solo . He wrote the screenplay for the film together with co-writer Fabian Hebestreit. The project was developed as part of the SWR junior program Debut in the Third , the supervising editor was Stefanie Groß. Producer Kathrin Tabler realized the project with the production company H&V Entertainment. Like Martin Busker, she studied at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy and made numerous short films with him. The project was funded by the Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg and the German Film Fund .

Martin Busker was able to win over German actress Andrea Sawatzki for the lead role of Ms. Lehmann , who was immediately enthusiastic about the script. Then more than 500 boys were cast to fill the difficult role of the refugee boy Zoro. Many refugees also called in, some of whom could be filled in roles.

Filming began on October 14, 2018 in Besigheim in Swabia and lasted 25 days. The composers Steven Schwalbe and Justin Michael LaVallee were responsible for the composition of the lavish choir pieces and the film score. The choir pieces were recorded by the Stuttgart hymn choirboys .

The film premiered on June 15, 2019 at the Emden-Norderney International Film Festival , where it won the festival's main prize, the Bernhard Wicki Prize in gold, and the NDR Young Talent Prize. Fabian Hebestreit and Martin Busker were awarded the Bavarian Film Prize in 2019 Awarded for the best screenplay on January 17th, 2020.

The distributor NFP marketing & distribution will bring the film to German cinemas on October 24, 2019.
