Joachim Masannek (born September 1, 1960 in Bockum-Hövel ) is a German children's book author and director , best known for the book series Die Wilde Fußballkerle and its six film adaptations.

Life

After studying philosophy, Joachim Masannek studied directing at the Munich University of Television and Film and worked as a cameraman , set designer and scriptwriter for film, TV and studio productions. With his bestseller Die Wilden Fußballkerle , he wrote his most successful series of 13 volumes to date, which has been sold over 15 million times in German-speaking countries and more than five million times in 29 countries worldwide. As a director with Uwe Ochsenknecht and his sons Wilson Gonzalez and Jimi Blue in the leading roles, he has implemented the content of the books in five films. In 2016 a sixth part was released, again directed and scripted by Masannek, but this time with new actors. A total of over eight million viewers watched Die Wilden Kerle films.

In March 2020 the first three Wilde Kerle volumes (Leon - Der Slalomdribbler; Felix - Der Wirbelwind; Vanessa - Die Unerschrocken) were published as a new edition and illustrated in color by 360 ° Verlag. The next volumes will follow in September 2020. At the start of the new editions, Masannek produced a podcast in which he invited the cast and crew from the six films and told the story and truth behind the wild guys.

He is a father of four and has lived with his family in Berlin since 2017. His two sons Marlon Wessel and Leon Wessel-Masannek played the roles of Maxi and Markus in the Wilde Kerle films.
