Oliver Schwabe
Oliver Schwabe (* 1966 in Hanover ) is a German film director , cameraman and screenwriter .
Live and act
Oliver Schwabe studied from 1994 to 1998 at the Art Academy for Media Cologne with Jürgen Klauke and completed a semester abroad at New York University . His diploma video installation amplifier / intensifier represented the Art Academy for Media Cologne in 1999 as part of the exhibition Digital Bauhau at the Intercommunication Center in Tokyo .
In 2001 he shot the short film Friends / The Whiz Kids as a cameraman under the direction of Jan Krüger , which was awarded a Silver Lion as the best short film at the 2001 Venice Film Festival . In 2001 Oliver Schwabe received the Spiridon Neven DuMont Prize.
In 2002 he founded "field recordings" together with Christian Becker . The directors work together under this label in the feature film sector as a directing and writing duo.
Her first feature film Egoshooter , produced by Wim Wenders , in which Tom Schilling plays a disoriented young person who keeps a video diary, was released in 2005. Their second joint feature film Zarte Parasiten with Robert Stadlober in the lead role tells the story of a couple who struggle as human service providers. The film celebrated its world premiere in 2009 at the 2009 Venice International Film Festival .
In 2007, Oliver Schwabe and Christian Becker founded field recordings film production , which mainly produces documentaries .
From 1998 to 2010 Oliver Schwabe was the editor of a total of 12 video diaries in the editorial team of Horst Königstein and since 2005 he has been making documentaries with mainly pop culture topics. His film No Breather - Düsseldorf, the Ratinger Hof and New Music was nominated for the Pop Culture Prize in 2016 . Also in 2016 his film Die Höhle von Eppendorf - The legendary Onkel Pö celebrated its premiere at the Hamburg Film Festival . His film Tokio Hotel - Behind the World, co-produced by Bildersturm Filmproduktion and Arte, was released in 2017 . 2018, his film was Asi with Niwoh - The Jürgen Zeltinger story on the Film Festival Cologne for Best Documentary NRW nominated. Also in 2018, his film EXODUS - Reports of Four Unaccompanied Minor Refugees received the nomination for the German Human Rights Film Award . In 2020 his film Die Liebe Eats Das Leben was awarded the German Documentary Film Prize.
In 2012 he shot the Mockumentary Fraktus as a cameraman under the direction of Lars Jessen . In 2014 he took over the camera work in What am I worth? by Peter Scharf. 2016 he characterized as a director of photography for the camera concept of wellness for couples of Jan Schütte responsible. The television film, based on improvisations by the actors, was shot with 20 cameras. In 2018 he shot a class reunion in the same constellation .
In addition, Oliver Schwabe has been working with the architectural photographer Hans-Georg Esch since the early 1990s and was involved in the conception of the book Cities Unknown . Since 2010 he has been making architectural films together with Hans Georg Esch .
Schwabe is a member of the German Film Academy and has been a substitute professor for television dramaturgy / creative television production with a focus on documentary film at the Art Academy for Media Cologne , Cologne (KHM) since 2019 .
