Jan Krüger (director)

Jan Krüger (born March 23, 1973 in Aachen ) is a German film director from the Berlin School .

Life

From 1992 to 1996 he studied electrical engineering, physics and social sciences at RWTH Aachen University . He then began studying film at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne , which he completed in 2001. He has been working for WDR and ZDF since 1998 as well as in advertising.

His 21-minute short film Friends , his thesis at the art college, was awarded the Silver Lion as “best short film” and the Prix UIP at the Venice International Film Festival in 2001 ; thereby he was nominated for the European Film Award. In 2002 this film was also nominated for the German Short Film Award. This film is about two sixteen-year-old boys who first experience each other in several ways.

Krüger released his first full-length feature film in 2004 with Unterwegs . This is about a young couple who make friends with a boy on a camping holiday, who eventually throws their lives off the rails for the rest of the summer.

In 2004 he received the sponsorship award from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

In 2007 a collection of four Kruger short films was released on DVD under the title Verführung von Engeln . In all of the short films, the director portrays love affairs between men, which is one of the main themes of his work. The film Hotel Paradijs was co-produced by Frank Stauss .

In 2011 his film Auf der Suche won the award for the best female leading role ( Corinna Harfouch ) at one of the largest gay and lesbian film festivals in Europe, the Lisbon Queer Lisboa .

Jan Krüger is counted to the Berlin school and works very often with the camerawoman Bernadette Paaßen .

In 2018, Alexander Verlag Berlin published his handbook, Rehearsals for Film, on rehearsal work by directing and acting in film.
