Benni, Sandra and their daughter Jule spend their summer vacation on a campsite. There she meets the drifting Marco. He persuades Benni and Sandra to take a trip to the Polish Baltic Sea. The carefree time at the sea is suddenly ended by a night ride on a motorcycle by Sandra and Marco. Sandra has exceeded the unspoken limits. The party on the occasion of Jules birthday escalates. Marco leads Jule out of the pile of broken pieces into the morning forest. Finally, Jule is found by Sandra and Benni. The end of an intense summer.

- Unterwegs received the Tiger Award 2004 at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).
- The film received the “Best First Feature” award at the Berlin & Beyond Film Festival in San Francisco.
