Erkan Aki (born June 20, 1969 in Sursee ) is a Swiss tenor of Turkish descent who sings between pop and classical music . The classically trained musician sings in seven languages.

Life

Erkan Aki was born as the youngest of three brothers. His parents, mother Remziye and father Ahmet, emigrated from Turkey to the canton of Lucerne at the end of the 1960s. The family lived in Willisau until he was 11 years old . In 1980 the family moved to Neftenbach near Winterthur , where the parents opened a coffee house. Erkan Aki later moved to Zurich. In the period that followed, Erkan Aki met his current wife Anna Steiner. In 2010 the two had a son. Erkan Aki is also involved in social areas, including the José Carreras Foundation and UNICEF .

Erkan Aki's path to becoming a tenor began at the age of 17. After a performance of Johann StraussDie Fledermaus ” in the Zurich Opera House , he decided to study classical singing. During his vocal studies with Paul Späni , he specialized in the subject of song and, parallel to his singing lessons, also completed a commercial training from 1986 to 1989, which he successfully completed. After the death of his singing teacher in 1993, Aki took music theory lessons in Istanbul for three years. Since his return he has been supervised by the music professor Jane Thorner-Mengedoht at the Zurich University of Music.

Erkan Aki made a studio recording with Atilla Şereftuğ . This came to the concert organizer and artist manager David Lieberberg by chance . He helped Aki get his first record deal, and Aki recorded his first album Here's to the Heros with producer Nigel Wright . The album rose high in the German charts.

Erkan Aki performed at the Brandenburg Gate on New Year's Eve 1999 and sang Here's to the Heroes at the turn of the millennium . The follow-up album to Here's to the Heroes is called Pop Classics . He recorded his next album, Zeit der große Emotions , in German. With Xavier Naidoo and Patricia Kaas he sang several titles for this album, such as the classic by Karat You must go over seven bridges . The song Unter der Haut by Patricia Kaas was recorded in a German-French version and was the theme song for the television drama Sturmzeit . Montserrat Marti, the daughter of Montserrat Caballé, played on his fourth studio album Songs for Lovers . With the fifth album Music in my Heart , Erkan Aki interpreted world hits like The Power of Love or Time to Say Goodbye . Two more albums followed: In Love for Europe , on which he sings in seven languages, and the Christmas album Romantic Christmas .

At a performance in the sold-out Xanten Arena in 2008, he not only sang classic pop hits with Montserrat Caballé, but also operatic arias. The result was joint concert tours with Sarah Brightman , in 2009 through South and Central America and in 2010 through Japan, Korea and Canada. In the meantime he was working on a best-of album, which was released in 2009 with the title Nur die Hits .

In 2012, after a long break, he released the album True Love , with the assistance of producer Jan-Eric Kohrs .
