Paul Spani

Paul Späni (born April 13, 1929 in Winterthur ; † February 15, 1993 in Davos ) was a Swiss opera singer ( tenor ) and singing teacher .

Life

Paul Späni was born in Winterthur in 1929 as the youngest of eleven children. His vocal training took place in Vienna with Tino Pattiera . He had his first engagement from 1956 to 1957 at the Vienna Volksoper. He then worked at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf-Duisburg until 1962. There he worked on October 21, 1961 in the world premiere of the opera Die Ameise by Peter Ronnefeld . From 1962 to 1964 he was a member of the Karlsruhe State Opera. He sang in Mozart's Magic Flute at the Salzburg Festival in 1964 . From 1964 to 1993 he was employed at the Zurich Opera House , where he sang in 1965 in Verdi's Falstaff. He worked as a singing teacher in Winterthur. Späni had three children, including the sports presenter Regula Späni (* 1965).
