Jan-Eric Kohrs (born July 3, 1970 in Hamburg ) is a German musician , composer and music producer .

Life

Childhood and youth

Jan-Eric studied music (classical piano ) at the Blankenese Conservatory in Hamburg as a child . He won prizes in classical competitions such as Jugend musiziert and received scholarships and sponsorship awards. After musical excursions in the Boogie Woogie , he discovered his passion for electronically produced pop music and expanded his instruments to include synthesizers, keyboards and a computer with a sequencer program. After graduating from high school, Kohrs studied business administration, but remained connected to music during his studies. He performed as a DJ in Hamburg and during his studies founded the band Shazard with the singer Nathalie Dorra , which achieved great local successes in Hamburg and the surrounding area and introduced him to the Hamburg music scene around the Angie's Nightclub in the early 90s, as well as the first record deal the RCA label.

In 1997 Jan-Eric Kohrs wrote the song Verrückte Jungs for the singer Blümchen (now known as Jasmin Wagner), who had a top 20 hit with it. He received a gold record for 150,000 copies of the album in love . In 1998 the first joint production work with his then companion Carsten Heusmann (the artist JouJou) was started by the RCA / BMG label. The album was discovered in a listening session by producer Frank Peterson and brought the three together for future work. In 1998 Jan-Eric Kohrs worked with Carsten Heusmann and Frank Peterson on a new edition of the Gregorian project , which Peterson founded after the separation from Michael Cretu and Enigma in 1991. By 2009, the team had edited more than 150 songs with the Masters of Chant series, released 9 albums and received gold and platinum records for more than 5 million records sold worldwide. Gregorian was honored with the Amadeus Award in Austria in 2002 and has been nominated twice for the German Echo. In 2010 the 11th record of the group will be released with the name "The Dark Side of the Chant". Jan-Eric Kohrs produced on this album, among other things, the sensational new version and so far the only adaptation of the title O Fortuna from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana approved by the publisher .

In 2003 Jan-Eric Kohrs and Carsten Heusmann parted as a joint production team, but continue to work together on Gregorian and in the Nemo-Studio on various productions. Kohrs founded the music production company Wunderkind Entertainment and continues to run his own recording studio in Hamburg, among others in close cooperation with Frank Peterson. In 2006 Jan-Eric Kohrs, together with a PR agency, managed to bring together six ex-world champions from Brazil for the 2006 soccer World Cup in Germany . The Legendarios do Brasil project united the former player legends Jair Ventura Filho ( Jairzinho ), Altair Gomes de Figueiredo, Jair Marinho de Oliveira, Hercules "Brito" Ruas, Marco Antônio Feliciano and Roberto Lopes de Miranda.

In 2007 Jan-Eric Kohrs produced the album In My Heart by the French singer Mireille Mathieu . The next album in 2009 Nah bei Dir was also produced by Jan-Eric Kohrs and recorded at Guillaume Tell Studio Paris, and in 2013 the album When my song kisses your soul , on which Mathieu her classics such as La Paloma , Behind the Scenes of Paris , Es geht has recorded Merci Cheri , Tarata Ting Tarata Tong and many new songs well.

In 2010, Jan-Eric Kohrs wrote and produced together with Jan Ole Claasen and Heiko Reiny Reinke the song for the 2010 soccer world championship - We're just going back to get a run-up by Oliver Pocher , which was adopted as the official anthem for Germany by FIFA sponsor McDonald's. Musical director

In addition to his production activities, Jan-Eric Kohrs also worked in the field of live music. In addition to the musical direction of the Europe-wide Gregorian tours in 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2009, he also took over the musical direction of the Harem World Tour 2003/2004 and the Symphony World Tour 2008/2009 from Sarah Brightman. In this context , he conducted orchestras around the world with musicians from the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and worked with tenors such as Mario Frangoulis , Alessandro Safina , Fernando Lima and Erkan Aki, and the Indian singer Shweta Shetty . In 2007 Jan-Eric Kohrs took part with Carolin Fortenbacher and the song Hinter'm Ozean in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 and only came in second behind the No Angels. In 2008 Jan-Eric Kohrs played the promotional tour for the new album Wasted by the American singer Jennifer Paige in Germany and Mallorca. In 2011 Jan-Eric Kohrs directs the international dates of the large-scale Gregorian - "The Dark Side of the Chant" stage show, which, in addition to other European countries, leads Gregorian to China for the first time. At the turn of the year 2014/2015 Jan-Eric Kohrs takes over the musical direction of the Gregorian Winter Chants Tour, which is touring with more than 50,000 visitors Gregorian at the same time with 2 casts in Germany and Europe.

Music label

In 2010 Jan-Eric Kohrs founded the record label MOKOH Music GmbH together with Stephan Moritz, originally in the sales department of Universal, since 2011 in the distribution of Sony Music and currently in the distribution of Rough Trade.
