Alannah Myles
Alannah Myles (born December 25, 1958 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian singer and actress .
biography
Myles grew up in Toronto and Buckhorn , where her family owns a ranch where she also learned to ride . Her first song she wrote with only eight years - a song called Ugly Little Cabbage in the Garden ( dt. Ugly little cabbage in the garden ), which she wrote for her sister to annoy them. She later sold her horse so that she could afford a guitar and perform in clubs and cafes .
Her music is influenced by other Canadian musicians such as Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen . At first, her parents stopped her from starting a music career. When she turned 18, she performed in southern Ontario. Eventually she met Christopher Ward , with whom she formed a band that played covered songs by Aretha Franklin , Bob Seger and The Pretenders . This band was later supplemented by David Tyson .
Myles tried some producers to gain for themselves by their own songs as covers spending.
In October 1989 she released the single Black Velvet , which became a hit in many countries, including Canada. It was the most successful debut by a Canadian singer. However, Black Velvet remained their only big international hit, because the subsequent singles Love Is and Lover of Mine could no longer build on this success.
Alannah Myles contributed the title song What Are We Waiting For in a duet with Zucchero for the film Prinz Eisenherz . The song You Love Who You Love to Stolen Hearts with Sandra Bullock was also sung by her. She has also recorded songs with other artists, e.g. B. with Saga Don't Give Up and with Nine Below Zero I've Never Loved a Man (the Way I Loved You) , which was performed with her at the Royal Albert Hall in London . It has also at the Rock Opera Nostradamus Nikolo Kozev, the Peace Choir against the first Iraq war and a Tina Turner - Tribute album ( I Can not Stand the Rain ) involved and also for the shipment kick of premiere the song Like Flames contributed. In 2005 she performed with K2 in the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest . Myles also sang the national anthem at the Toronto Sky Dome to mark the opening of Canadian football season .
There are recordings ( bootlegs ) of Myles together with Mavis Staples ' The Staple Singers , live from the Diamond Club in Toronto. In September 2007 her new album Black Velvet was released , which includes a new recording by Black Velvet and 10 new titles.
Before starting her music career, Myles appeared in many commercials in Canada. In 2001 she appeared in the globally successful Canadian series La Femme Nikita (season 5, episode 4, All the World's a Stage ). In 2006/07 she appeared on American cable television as the host host of the mystery series Beyond .
Alannah Myles appears very often in Canadian clubs and festivals and is considered an excellent live performer.
On the album The Dark Side of the Chant of Gregorian Alannah Myles sings the female part in three songs. One of them is the cover Bring Me to Life , which originally comes from Evanescence .
