War of the Worlds is a novel on the War of the Worlds by HG Wells based and Paramount Television produced American science fiction television series . It ties in with the plot of the movie Battle of the Worlds by George Pal .

Earth in 1988: 35 years ago an invasion by Martians failed - they died of a viral disease shortly before they could completely subdue the earth. The bodies of the invaders were kept in tanks and regenerated unnoticed due to a nuclear accident in an underground test site in Nevada. The Martians succeed in seizing the bodies of the terrorists who caused the accident in order to finally conquer the earth - under the direction of their leaders, the three "advocates" (in the second season of the "Eternals"). A small group of resistance fighters, led by Dr. Blackwood the invaders.

In the United States, War of the Worlds premiered in two seasons on American free television between fall 1988 and summer 1990. For the first time on German television, the series was shown on the private broadcaster ProSieben , which broadcast the series in full from spring to autumn 1992. Repetitions took place in 1995 at ProSieben , 1996/97 at kabel eins and in 2009 at Tele 5 .
Others
- Paramount Television had high hopes for the series. This was particularly evident in the high advertising budget that was estimated and in the fact that the series in the syndication market could only be acquired together with the science fiction series Spaceship Enterprise: The Next Century , which was started a year earlier .
- The first season could hardly convince the audience, but it was given a second chance. Under the direction of Frank Mancuso Jr. , producer of the series Heirs of the Curse , the concept began to be refreshed and some regular actors were exchanged. It also received the title War of the worlds: The second Invasion .
- The alien invaders were given a name in the second season - henceforth they were called Morthrens .
- Ann Robinson , guest actress in one of the first episodes, already played the role of Sylvia van Buren in Battle of the Worlds . In the series she introduces the stepmother of Dr. Blackwood represents.
- Other guest actors include: Patrick Macnee ( With umbrella, charm and bowler hat ), John Colicos ( Battlestar Galactica ) and Greg Morris ( Kobra, take over )
Publications
In Germany, some episodes appeared as a compilation on the three VHS video cassettes War of the Worlds - The Invasion , War of the Worlds - The Offensive and War of the Worlds - The Apocalypse , which were released from the age of 18. The two seasons of the series are also available on DVD in Germany, whereby the age rating has been set at 16 years.
