John Colicos

John Colicos (born December 10, 1928 in Toronto , Ontario , † March 6, 2000 there ) was a Canadian actor .

Life

John Colicos was first a critically acclaimed Shakespeare actor in 1951 and, at just 22, the youngest King Lear actor at the Old Vic Theater in London . In the course of his later career, Colicos was cast mostly as a bad guy in many roles in theater, film and television.

In 1964 he received great acclaim for his interpretation of King Lear at the Stratford Festival in Canada. His portrayal of Winston Churchill in English-language productions of Rolf Hochhuth's soldiers in London and New York City also received positive reviews. He had his first major film role in 1969 in the film Queen for a Thousand Days with Richard Burton and Geneviève Bujold .

In 1967 he played the first Klingon, Kor , in the episode Battle for Organia of the television series Star Trek . The Klingon Commander Kor in Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine became one of his most famous television roles. Colicos also played the treacherous Count Baltar in Battlestar Galactica alongside Lorne Greene and Mikkos Cassadine in General Hospital . He was also a guest star on dozens of television series.

Colicos was married to Mona McHenry from 1956 to 1981 and was the father of two sons. He died in 2000 after multiple heart attacks.
