Ann Robinson (born May 25, 1929 in Hollywood , Los Angeles , California ) is an American actress . She became famous as Sylvia Van Buren in the 1953 science fiction film Battle of the Worlds .

Life

Ann Robinson was born in Hollywood in 1929 and graduated from Hollywood High School. Before starting her acting career, she worked as a stuntwoman for three film productions from 1949 . It was only in 1950 that Paramount Pictures signed a contract with Robinson as an actress. At first she only worked as an extra or supporting actress in films such as Im Solde des Satans or The City Under the Sea , in which she was mostly not mentioned in the credits. Robinson played her first major role in 1953 in the film noir The Glass Wall .

Ann Robinson achieved her breakthrough as an actress through her role as Sylvia Van Buren in the 1953 alien invasion film Battle of the Worlds . She played the same role 35 years later in three episodes of the same TV show and was in Steven Spielberg's remake of War of the Worlds in 2005 a cameo appearance as a grandmother alongside Gene Barry , who together with her in War of the Worlds played would have.

In 1957 Ann Robinson married the bullfighter Jaime Bravo and moved with him to Mexico. They had two sons named Jaime Jr. and Estefan A. After a break in filming, Robinson took part in films again, mostly in the science fiction genre, but only had minor roles. She also appeared as a guest actress in several television series. In 1967, Robinson and Bravo's marriage was divorced; he died three years later in a car accident. In 1987 she married the real estate agent and businessman Joseph Valdez.

After her role in Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds in 2005, Robinson ended her film career after more than fifty years, but still appears as a guest star at autograph shows and science fiction conventions .
