Beatrice von Weizsäcker
Marianne Beatrice Freiin von Weizsäcker (born August 20, 1958 in Essen ) is a German lawyer , author and freelance journalist . She comes from the Palatinate - Württemberg family Weizsäcker and is the daughter of the former German President Richard von Weizsäcker and his wife Marianne von Weizsäcker , née. from Kretschmann.
Life
Von Weizsäcker studied law and obtained his doctorate in law . jur. After studying and passing the second state examination in law, she initially worked as a freelancer in the Federal Chancellery and as a research assistant at Rita Süssmuth , who was then Federal Minister for Family Affairs .
Von Weizsäcker is a book author and has published numerous articles in books and magazines.
In 1990 she became an editor at Bouvier Verlag in Bonn . From 1991 to 2000 she was a political editor at Tagesspiegel in Berlin. From 2000 to 2003 she worked as a head of department for the foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future” to compensate former forced laborers. From the end of 2007 to the beginning of 2009 she was the responsible employee of the White Rose Network of the White Rose Foundation and until 2018 a member of the board of the non-partisan Theodor Heuss Foundation .
Von Weizsäcker is a member of the Presidium of the German Evangelical Church Congress and of the 3rd Ecumenical Church Congress in 2021. She was already a member of the Presidium of the 2nd Ecumenical Church Congress in 2010. She converted to the Catholic faith in May 2020.
From 2012 to 2015 she was the patron of the “ Argula von Grumbach Prize” of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria and the Argula von Grumbach Foundation, subject: “How do women change the church?”.
In 2017/2018 she was the patron of the ninth state competition Evangelical Religion of the Hanns Lilje Foundation on the subject of rituals. The tender was organized in cooperation with the Religious Education Institute Loccum. The competition was aimed at students in the 10th grade as well as the upper level of grammar schools, comprehensive schools and technical high schools. “Rituals”, says von Weizsäcker, “can be of tremendous help.” There are a number of such rites: “A kiss can also be a ritual. Or a smile. "
Von Weizsäcker is co-initiator of the “Open Letter”, with which hundreds of people turned against the Cross Ordinance in Bavaria within a few days from the end of May 2018 and against what they saw as the unchristian policy of the CSU, in particular its refugee policy and deportation practice. In July 2018 she and two other members of the Presidium of the German Evangelical Church Congress drafted the petition “First the person dies, then the right!” For a humanitarian refugee policy in Europe, which 100,000 people joined within a few weeks.
Beatrice von Weizsäcker is the sister of Robert K. von Weizsäcker . Her two brothers who had already died were Andreas von Weizsäcker and Fritz von Weizsäcker .
