Trashi Namgyel was also of special importance for the recognition and education of the 8th Karmapa Mikyö Dorje . The 5th Tshurphu Gyeltshab Rinpoche was a spiritual friend of the 5th Dalai Lama Ngawang Lobsang Gyatsho .
