War of the Worlds 3 - How It All Began is an American science fiction horror film directed by David Michael Latt with C. Thomas Howell in the lead role. It is loosely based on the novel War of the Worlds by HG Wells .
The film is about an astronomer who, separated from his family , struggles to survive during an invasion of planet Earth by Martians . The world premiere took place on June 28, 2005 in the United States; War of the Worlds 3 was released in Germany on June 22, 2011 direct-to-video on DVD and Blu-ray Disc .

Since life on the surface of the planet Mars is becoming more and more threatening due to bad weather conditions and other causes, its inhabitants search the entire solar system for life-friendly celestial bodies and finally become aware of the earth. They begin an invasion using human blood to grow imported plants that are vital to them. They have various fighting machines, including so-called tripods, i.e. three-legged colossi. The earthly military, which is caught unprepared, is subject to the Martian and is helpless at its mercy. Finally, with the help of viruses and bacteria , it is possible to attack the aliens' weak immune system and kill them.
The focus of the plot is the struggle for survival of the astronomer George Herbert. After his wife Felicity was murdered by the Martians, he stays alone with his son Alex, in one of garbage assembled hut in the ruins of New York City back, the remaining victims midst.
Aftermath
In 2008, was directed by C. Thomas Howell with the Worlds 2 War - The Next Wave the sequel to War of the Worlds 3 . The leading roles were played by C. Thomas Howell, again as George Herbert, and Christopher Reid. The plot, which is about a second invasion and a counterattack by humans on the planet Mars, ties in directly with the predecessor.
In Germany, for marketing reasons, both films were released in out of chronological order as unofficial sequels to Steven Spielberg's 2005 War of the Worlds .
