action

The film begins with short excerpts from War of the Worlds 3 , with the astronomer George Herbert, the main character of the film , giving an introduction in which, among other things, he explains the first invasion and its consequences.

Then it is shown how two years later some tripods, Martian war machines, land in a small town and kidnap some people. After that, George and Alex Herbert shown in one of garbage assembled cabin living. The astronomer George becomes a base for the American US Army asked where he demonstrated a newly built fleet, consisting partly automatically controlled, even for the space suitable Lockheed Martin F-22 fighter jets with optional rocket engine is and on Martian technology based. Because of his astronomical knowledge, he is asked for help in organizing the attack on the enemy. So George meets with two other experts to work out the thesis that the Martians can reach Earth via wormholes in a short time. They develop a plan to destroy the Martian mothership with a gigantic combat fleet.

When George returns, he sees his son being captured by a tripod and abducted. He then decides to let himself be caught by one of the machines in order to possibly find his son again. He approaches another tripod and is caught with a man named Pete. Inside the tripod, they meet other people who are confused and wandering around in the bloody cave, and some of them have already lost their minds. You feel the machine taking off and believe you are on the way to the mother ship. Some of the inmates are wrapped in a root-like secretion . George, Pete and the traumatized Sissy discover an invisible portal through which they step and thus supposedly come back to earth; to the warehouse district of a large city they do not know . There they meet the traumatized and mentally disturbed person Shackleford, who assures them that the city is an illusion created on Mars, from which there is no escape, which the two initially do not believe. But when Shackleford tells George that he knows how to save his son, he gets his attention. According to Shackleford, George has to inject himself with a certain virus and later inject it into the biological tripod, so that the simulation is disturbed and they get to the other trapped humans.

In the meantime it is shown how the big cities of London and Paris are razed to the ground by the Martians with their radiation weapons before the united terrestrial military starts the counterattack: After some difficulties with the exit from the earth's atmosphere the fleet reaches the earth orbit, where the mother ship, the represents a military base of the Martians, some “ flying saucers ” and the entire space fleet are sucked into a wormhole , whereupon all machines fail. Major Kramer then determines that they are in orbit around Mars after a time travel and orders the attack on all Martian machines that are within range. Unprepared for such an attack, the Martians may be defeated by the Earth fleet after a not-too-long battle. As part of this, the human prisoners, including George, his son Alex and Pete, who have since injected the virus into the tripod and were able to free themselves, can be brought back to Earth in a transporter .

Staging

In the production, less emphasis was placed on action scenes than on the explicit representation of the effects of a traumatizing experience on the human psyche . So this work can be classified in the category of a thriller .

criticism
