The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Brioude and the canton of Brioude (until 2015: canton of Brioude-Sud ).

Bournoncle-Saint-Pierre is about 56 kilometers northwest of Le Puy-en-Velay . Bournoncle-Saint-Pierre is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vergongheon in the north, Cohade in the east, Beaumont in the south, Saint-Géron in the west and Lempdes-sur-Allagnon in the north-west.

The municipality's population is divided into the districts of Bournoncle , Laroche , Bard , Barlières , Peyssanges , Les Combes and Arvant .

The national route 102 and the railway line from Saint-Germain-des-Fossés to Nîmes-Courbessac run through the municipality , from which the branch line to Figeac branches off in the Arvant district .

Gare d'Arvant

The district of Avant , which was only added to the municipality in 1929, owes its existence to the local transfer station where, in addition to regional TER Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes trains, Intercités also stop.
